Membership Guidelines

  • Membership in Healthy Minds Cooperative is voluntary and open to all persons willing to accept the responsibilities of membership. Any individual having lived experience with mental health issues, and/or an interest in the topic of mental health, is eligible to become a member. A membership agreement must be filled out and a share purchased at a one-time cost of $5.00.

  • Members have full voting rights (one vote per member). Members are eligible to serve in elected office of Healthy Minds Cooperative. Members will automatically receive Healthy Minds Cooperative’s email communications. You may unsubscribe at any time.

  • Members are responsible to attend members’ meetings, including the Annual General Meeting, to discuss and vote on issues of importance to Healthy Minds Cooperative. Members are responsible to participate in Healthy Minds Cooperative through recruitment of new shareholder members and/or referring people to access our free services.

  • Members can give one month’s written notice of termination of their membership at anytime. Subject to the regulations and the by-laws, a member may be eligible to a refund of the $5.00 held to his or her credit in share capital.

  • Membership can be revoked with cause by a two thirds (2/3) vote by the Board of Directors. “Cause” can include activities such as misrepresentation, falsifying expense claims, etc.

Membership Agreement

I understand that Healthy Minds Cooperative is a not-for-profit organization whose mandate is to address vital matters identified by those who have lived experience with mental health and/or addiction issues, and/or their family members.

I also understand the identified priorities of Healthy Minds Cooperative are:

  1. Better access to mental health services, supports, etc.;

  2. Public education regarding mental illness and/or addictions;

  3. More extensive participation of those with living experience in the design, development, delivery, and evaluation of mental health services;

  4. Providing peer-based supports to Nova Scotians with mental health and/or addiction challenges, as well as to their families; and

  5. Developing better connections to existing community services.

I understand that a one-time, one (1) share subscription of $5.00 entitles me to lifetime membership at Healthy Minds Cooperative, which provides me access to all programs and services, the right to vote at any general and/or annual meeting of Healthy Minds Cooperative, and to be eligible to be elected to the Board of Directors.
